Moving in

We finally moved into our house! The past week has kind of been a blur. We've been busy packing boxes and getting ready for the move. On the evening of the 25th, I picked up a uhaul truck and parked it at Jen's work parking lot. On the 26th, Jen and I woke up early and picked up the truck. Thankfully, we had some help on the 26th. Nate, a great guy who is the fiance of one of Jens co-workers, showed up around 730, and we loaded all the heavy stuff from the apartment. Around 9am, another great guy that Jen works with: Kim, showed up to load some of the remaining stuff at the apartment. We all drove over to the house and unloaded stuff. Suprisingly, we barely got the master bed up the stairs. Supposedly, homes are supposed to be built so that a king sized bed can be moved into the master bedroom. We had to fold our mattress like a taco to get it in there! Nate had to go to work, so I made good use of Kim's services. We finished unloading the truck into the garage, and headed over to pick up a desk that I bought off of craigslist. I got a good deal on the desk (a solid wood desk weighing easily 300 lbs), but for a good reason: we had to move it out of the basement of the owners and up a snow-covered hill! An hour and a half (and many bruises) later, we had it loaded on the truck. Then we went to the storage unit and picked up all the larger items (washer, dryer, fridges, bowflex, etc). We got back to the house, and unloaded it all into the garage. Kim helped me get the desk into the basement. Thankfully, gravity helped out with that and it was easier than removing it from the other guys basement.

By 5pm, we had returned the uhaul. I dont think I have ever been so tired in my life! Jen got off work around 7pm and we spent our first night in our new house!

Since then, Jen and I have spent a lot of time emptying out boxes. I met a nice neighbor, and he lent us a dolly to move some things around the house.

There are still boxes everywhere, but they are slowly getting emptied! We are so grateful that Nate and Kim helped us move... we know we couldn't have done it without them!

Laptop lunchbox

Jon and I are now officially 1 year older (and wiser? who knows?). Our birthdays are just 2 days apart - so for 2 days we are the same age. We tried to do small gifts this year since our big (HUGE!) gift was our Brand New House! I have been wanting a Laptop Lunchbox for several months now, ever since I wandered past the Vegan Lunchbox blog - so Jon ordered me the colorful version. I ordered him a book on basement remodeling. We decided early on that the unfinished basement of our new house is his domain (well, he shares it with the washer and dryer, but mostly his domain). Eventually we would like to finish it with walls and something more than a cement floor - despite the kitty's love for cement.
The vet i work with treated us to a yummy sushi lunch for my birthday (yay bento box - the idea behind my laptop lunchbox). And Jon and I went out for dinner for his birthday to Little Holly's Asian Bistro - right around the corner from our new house. We split an order of chicken lettuce wraps to start. Jon had a Chilean Sea Bass and I had Kung Pao tofu - both excellent. This restaurant is definitely going on our fave list.
We are now moved in - more or less - to our new house. Jon and two friends from work (thanks guys!) spent all day Friday moving the furniture from the apartment and the storage unit to the house. Jon also picked up his new executive desk (courtesy of Craig's List). Lots of the stuff is still in the garage, but at least it's here! Now we begin the unpacking!

Proud home-owners

We bought a house!!! I feel like that sentence could be my entire post, but I suppose you would like more details.
Jon and I had been planning to become a part of the homeowner society at some point in the future, but when we saw the rent increase at our apartment ($400 a month!!!) we had extra incentive. Jon has been doing work for an Aggie realty group for the past few months, so we found ourselves an Aggie realtor here in Denver. He and Jon looked at about 20 houses in one day, and we quickly decided on one. Strange that it takes me forever to pick a dish at a restaurant, but we had no problem deciding on a house in a couple of days!

Our new house is 2 stories, has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living areas, plus an unfinished basement. It's definitely smaller (1400ish sq feet plus 420 sq ft basement) and more expensive than Texas standards, but it's in a great neighborhood and we love it! It even has a small backyard with a deck and rosebushes (that are now covered in several feet of snow) and the kitchen has an island! We can't wait to move in!!
